In an amazing shift, in my eyes, from being total buffoons, it appears that both Congress and the House are showing their support for NASA, thumbing their noses at Obama's attempt to cut the program.
Please, everyone collectively applaud now. Sometimes they have a few moments of lucid thought in Washington.

I assure you that the only
I assure you that the only reason lawmakers are motivated to keep NASA's manned spaceflight programs funded is because they'd be hard pressed to explain to their constituents why all the lucrative Federal aerospace contracts (and the jobs they maintain/create) disappeared on their watch. That's all it is: simple self-preservation for the next election cycle. Never once does the benefit of manned spaceflight and the science that it produces enter their minds, nor does any real consideration of whether the Constellation program as proposed is actually worthwhile or if it needs changing. I am certain that if they could cut the program without repercussions in the polls they'd do it in a heartbeat.
Is that kind of pass-the-buck cowardice really worth cheering for even if the end result is what we desired?
